Ma’am Flora has always had an idiosyncratic presence in my life; underneath the daunting demeanor, there is so much care and well wishes for her students. I got the opportunity to meet her after making the switch from Bahria College to Roots I-9/3 for my A levels. As my colleagues seized every chance to interact with her, I shied away from such opportunities. That changed with her intervention when I was at crossroads whether to join the Navy like my father, or to go to LUMS, and I was able to make the right choice for myself because of her. Flora has the gift for leaving an impression of significance even with minimum interaction. I might be a retired teenager, but I remember what it was like being one. Navigating through high school life can sometimes be a great deal to handle. High school students need guidance in many areas of their lives, including choices of courses to take, career paths, specific pursuit of jobs or higher education after graduation, and a whole array of personal choices (including friendships, peer pressure, relationships, and community engagement). Prepping kids for university placements, getting sponsors or judges for events, and dishing out strong career advice while managing her personal endeavors, Flora does it all. Her drive and passion for her work is contagious and makes it easy for people to trust her knowledge and expertise. She is truly one in a million, and will always be one of the greater influences in my achievements in life.
